USPSA/SSC Sanction & Questions

Q: What is the round count for the match?
A: 189

Q: Are drop loop/offset loop legal at the SSC?
A: No they are not.

Q: Are fiber optic front sights legal at the SSC?
A: Yes they are.

Q: Can I use a tungsten guide rod in my 1911?
A: Yes you may.

Q: Are extended Magwells allowed?
A: Yes they are as long as the 1911 fits into the box. The pistol must fit in a box of the following size: 8.90 x 6.00 x 1.81 inches.

Q: I have a square trigger guard on my 1911 can I use it at the SSC?
A: Yes a square trigger guard is allowed.

Q: Are extended dust covers allowed?
A: No they are not allowed at the SSC.

Q: Can I use a Smith & Wesson 945 at the SSC?
A: No, it is not a 1911. The Smith & Wesson 945 only has a grip safety and frame mounted safety in common with a 1911. They do not even use the same magazines. The Slide is all Smith & Wesson nothing 1911 about it.

Q: Are linkless barrel 1911 systems permitted?
A: Yes they are as long as it is not a bull barrel. (We would have no way of knowing unless the gun was disassembled.)

Q: Is the Para-Ordinance 7-45 LDA legal for the single stack classic? It is very 1911 and it is a single stack but the firing action is different being double action.
A: The BOD of the 1911 Society has decided that the double action trigger makes this a modified version of a 1911 and will not allow it in the SSC.

Q: Can you advise if the 6" barreled 1911 versions are authorized for use in the single stack classic matches?
A: They are not allowed along with Long Slides.

Q: Can I use tritium night sights in the SSC?
A: Yes you may.

Q: Can I use my plastic frame STI/SV with a single stack magazine adapter?
A: No you may not. These are great guns that are based on a 1911 but they are not true 1911's. The same companies make 1911 all metal single stacks that are allowed.

Q: Can I have extended base pads on my magazines?
A: Yes you may, as long as they do not increase the capacity of the magazine.

Q: I've been informed that both my Kimber Pro Elite and my Wilson CQB Compact are not eligible to participate in the SSC. I think I understand the reasoning behind it, but I'm not sure that a 4-inch bull barrel is really an advantage over my full size Wilson Protector. Would your group considered adopting similar rules to the IDPA when it comes to these types of barrels? They allow bull barrels along, as they do not exceed 4.2 inches.
A: Any of the "Compact" Pistols produced with Factory Bull Barrels, i.e. Kimber, Springfield, Colt, Wilson, or any others, are legal for the "SSC". However Putting a Bull Barrel in a Commander or a Government Model is "Not Legal". This ruling was made before the 2000 match, and does not show in older printed material. There has been very little interest for shooters to do this, as they think they are at a disadvantage, so they usually use a Government Model (5 inch). However if you would like to shoot a Compact, we would love to have you.

Q: I ran across the web site of the 1911 society and printed out an entry form. I shoot the Bianchi Cup and a few other pistol and revolver matches. I noticed a choice of major or minor and I know the difference but was wondering? Are they grouped separately for the prizes and shooting? What do most people shoot in? I shoot stock class on everything I participate in. Do most shooters shoot 40 S&W caliber in major?
A: Major and Minor shoot in the same class and but are scored different depending on where the shot goes into the target. A zone hits both score 5 points, B&C zone hits Major scores 4 Minor scores 3 points, D zone hits Major 2 Minor 1. By a wide margin most competitors shoot 45's and shoot Major. But the 40 S&W is picking up more each year. A few will shoot 38 Super or 9mm in minor.

Q: What holsters are legal for the Single Stack Classic?
A: The 1911 Society doesn't have an approved holster list.

Our rules state. Only safe holsters and magazine pouches, on waist level belt, worn behind a line drawn down the center of the shooter's side are permitted. Belt must pass through pant loops or be attached to pants belt by velcro or keepers.
Holsters and magazine pouches designed specifically for competition or to gain a competitive advantage are not in the spirit of the 1911 Society and are not permitted. Holsters and magazine pouches should be designed for continuous daily carry and should be reasonably concealable.

A good guide to use would be the IDPA approved holster list. If you can use it in IDPA you can use it at the SSC. If the holster you thinking about using are designed for USPSA/IPSC Open Guns I can guarantee that it will not be allowed.

Q: Can I use Ghost Ring Sights?
A: Yes as long as the 1911 fits in the box.

Q: How many magazines do people carry on the belt when shooting the SSC?
A: The Courses Of Fire would never require you to wear more then two magazines. But then people miss, I wear three, who knows may drop one. You can wear as many as you like as long as they are behind the centerline of the shooter's side.

Q: Can I build a 1911 from a Caspian single stack frame with the integral magwell and a Caspian Slide? I realize that Caspian does not sell complete guns. Is this legal for the SSC?
A: Yes you may build a 1911 from Caspian or any other 1911 parts supplier and use it at the SSC. This has confused some people because we list production rules. As long as a 1911 that is built from parts is in the same configuration as a production 1911 you can use it at the SSC.

Q: Can I top load a round so you have 1 in the chamber and a full magazine in the gun?
A: Yes you may, and it's a good idea.

Q: Do you post the stages on the web site before the match?
A: No we do not. This is what is called a semi surprise match. You will get a course book at check in and allowed to look over the stages before you shoot.

Q: What would be the largest stage at the SSC?
A: A 24 round field course would be the absolute maximum. The courses are designed with the thought that a shooter would only have to wear two magazines on his or her belt.

Q: How many rounds of ammo should I bring to the SSC?
A: At least 300. The match may not take that many but better to be safe then sorry. I always try to take twice what I think I will need.

Q: Are Tactical Reloads required at the SSC as they are in IDPA?
A: No they are not. The SSC uses the current USPSA rulebook as a guide.

Q: When are the results posted on the web site after the match?
A: Only as fast as humanly possible. But please be patient there may be delays.

Q: A friend and I want to be squaded together. What would be the best way to assure that we are?
A: Send your entries in together in the same envelope with a note stating that you want to be in the same squad.

Q: Can a woman wear her belt and holster down lower on her hips through loops like they allow in IPSC and USPSA matches?
A: I'm afraid not. This is a concealed carry type match. We may not require that a holstered gun be concealed but we do require that it could be.

Q: I have a Smith & Wesson 1911 with an external extractor is it allowed?
A: Yes they are allowed.

Q: Will the range be open for inspection on Thursday before the match?
A: The range is open for inspection by the Friday and Saturday competitors on Thursday. The Range Officers and Match Staff that are shooting the match do so on Thursday.
